When we fly over Spain today, we discover that Francoist dictatorship has cultivated its own memory of the civil war. A war that lasted nearly three years - from July 1936 to April 1939 - and caused more than 600,000 civilian and military casualties.
But the dictatorial regime, which has dominated the country from the civil war until the death of Franco in 1975, has failed to erase all traces of its abuses or to completely confiscate the meaning of these tragic events.
