How to make a living from an ancestral profession, on an arid but majestic land… against all odds? Tahar Mna, a farmer from southern Tunisia, has always lived in this desert, like his ancestors before him. This land is precious to him, despite the sandstorms and the diseases that threaten his crops. He decided to plant a palm grove there to support his family and make sure they have a future.
A journey into the heart of one of the driest regions in the world, to the south east of Chott El Jerid in Tunisia, in the middle of the sand dunes of the Sahara. For a whole year, the time of a growing season, Tahar Mna accompanies us to tell the story which features his family and the inhabitants of his village. But, above all, we discover how Tahar adapts ancestral knowledge in order to create a new oasis adapted to the effects of climate change. An oasis that little by little will become a model for others. By applying techniques of agroforestry that no one had used in this territory before him, he is takes a bet on the future, trying to maintain a fragile balance with his close environment to live in harmony in this region that is considered infertile.
The stakes are high because he will need to bring life to the desert by learning to live with the elements to curb the harmful effects of human activity.
