The search for new worlds in the universe or of planets orbiting stars other than our own Sun… it’s the stuff astronomers’ dreams are made of! So Serge Brunier is not really surprised to be meeting with exoplanet hunters in the foothills of the Andes cordillera.
To date, these astronomers have discovered more than 3,000 planets in our galaxy. And not just any old planet! Most of the time, these are huge planets, a thousand times larger than planet Earth. And they wonder…could there be other worlds out there, somewhere in the universe, where life would be possible? Astronomers think so!
They direct their observations and their projects for future telescopes towards the possibility of discovering a sister planet of planet Earth…
