This huge bay - 270 kilometres long and nearly100 kilometres wide – holds the record of the highest tides in the world. They can reach more 16 meters, creating an incredible biological diversity, influencing the rhythm of all living organisms in the bay…wildlife, flora, but also men. This is a phenomenon of geological origins. The particular seafloor relief as well as the shape of the coastline of the Bay of Fundy create the conditions for the 110 billion tons of water rushing every 12 hours through this giant funnel to trigger these extraordinary tides.
In order to fully understand tidal energy, though, we must look at the sky or rather, the force that intimately connects planet Earth and its satellite, the Moon. They form an unusual tandem united by the force of gravity, which is unique in our solar system. And it has been this way for more than 4 billion years...
