In Tajikistan, women dress in shimmering clothing in order to protect themselves against evil spirits. And their hair is much admired, like a national heritage, particularly their long pleats are the stuff Tajiks dream of.
For the male population, it’s the polo with a raised collar that symbolises the dynamic modern man.
Another popular fashion item is the t-shirt made of traditional flocked Tajik fabric. It’s a symbol of patriotism that is sponsored and encouraged by the government
Speaking of which…one cannot help being reminded of a certain “sultan” attitude hidden in the government when presented with the “djoma”, a coat lined with gold thread worn by the Tajik president.
