DRESS IN SOUTH KOREA

Director(s): Aldo LEE – Writer(s): Aldo LEE   Contact Contact   Download Print page

In this episode on Korea, we discover the fans of “cosplay” (literally costume players) who dress up as their favourite comic character – a fashion directly imported from Japan. On the other end of the spectrum, we meet a couple about to be married who show us how to wear the traditional hanbok.
Confucius has also influenced Korean mentality as demonstrated by the monks and their ‘outfits’ and Koreans snowboarders have adopted winter sports and all the accessories that come with a perfect ski outfit.
It is evident that the advent of globalization, the disappearance of traditional culture and the growing influence of China and Japan, has encouraged Koreans to use fashion as a means to express their identity.
