1968, WORLD IN REVOLT
Director(s): Michèle DOMINICI Contact Print page
This is a film on some of the protagonists of the “year zero” of worldwide protest – their struggle and their fate. Daniel Cohn-Bendit, the icon of a memorable month of May in Paris, has become a Member of the European Parliament. Jan Palach, the young student with the sad eyes, has become the symbol of the Prague spring - he died after setting himself on fire just days after the end of the year 1968. American feminist activist Robin Morgan, who threw her bra into the face of American conservatism, still fights for her ideas. Former US athlete Tommie Smith is better known today for his raised fist on the podium of the Olympic Games in Mexico than for his medals. Felix Dennis, the maliciously cynical pioneer of British counter-culture has become a billionaire. Alain Krivine has remained faithful to his ideals and is still the spokesman of the French Revolutionary Communist League…
All these men and women struggled in their own way to bring about change - some were quite carefree about it, others risked their lives, and paid for it. Some won, others lost. Through the prism of their destiny, this film looks at the world more than 40 years on.
