Monte Sana, an exclusive retirement community in the south of France. Its residents suffer from strokes, diabetes, heart disease, Alzheimer’s disease – all the ailments of old age. But now many of these diseases can be cured or contained with the latest stem cell therapies. The old are getting younger, and death is being postponed…
Young TV reporter, Ella, finds that Monte Sana is not what it seems: the residents are guinea pigs, on the cutting edge of medical research… THE CELL is Ella’s investigation, a story that reflects all sides of the stem cell dilemma - the possible benefits and perilous risks, the ethical issues, the potential for exploitation and grave disappointment, and finally the promise of immortality.
As the story develops, day by day, Ella takes us back to the “past” - the year 2006 - a time when stem cell medicine was making headlines around the world, for reasons both good and bad.
