Saint-Denis, a modern suburb north of Paris, has the reputation of being a « difficult » neighbourhood with its mix of people from various backgrounds, race, colour and religion. This is a true story as experienced by the film’s director, Françoise Davisse, who lives in Saint Denis with her family.

Among the neighbours, there is an understanding to help and support each other. On October 17th, 2001, during an identity control by the police outside the apartment block, things get out of hand. Françoise and others join to help and calm everyone down. But the police won’t have any of it and they are quickly becoming “guilty parties”. People are assaulted, get hurt, are arrested and get charged with resisting arrest, insulting a police offer. A verbal protest is considered a “rebellion”… But these are no criminals, no drunkards disturbing public order. They are ordinary people like you and me..
The neighbours decide that they would defend themselves and file charges against the police. This was when their problems really began.
Almost three years later, justice has not been served. And despite the legal costs, they won’t give up, it’s become a point of honour…
