In the heart of the Nigerien Sahel, far off the beaten "asphalt" track, thousands of Fulbe Wodaabe nomads gather every year for a colourful ceremony known as the Gerewol, a series of contests and barters over marriage where the young men's beauty and skills are judged by young women.
Throughout seven days and nights, following the solar cycle, the descendants of two rival bloodlines are opposed in a ritual confrontation. The avowed purpose of his ancestral ritual: stealing women from their opponents!
As a result of ten years' research and a close friendship that developed between the director and the tribe, this film offers a rare glimpse of time-honoured tradition. Fearing that their way of life may die out, they have chosen to share with us their experience, their traditions and their efforts to keep their lineage alive…
