Filmmaker Bertrand Latouche from Nantes in France (previous film "Diary at the Water's Edge") wants to pass on "a road map" for life to his daughter who has left the nest. So he asks his three best friends to come with him to deliver his daughter's piano to Montpellier by truck. On their way south, the four fathers wonder how they could continue being useful in their role…now that their children are all grown up.

"Take it lightly" is the story of these fathers; their strengths and weaknesses. A story of friendship, too which goes back to their shared childhood…
