On February 22, 2019, the French government launched “114”, the emergency call number dedicated to the deaf, the hard of hearing or people with speech difficulties.

This national free phone number actually is in operation since 2011. But before today, it only worked for SMS text messages or fax. But finally, it is now possible to call for help in sign language via a video conference service. So how does this work? We go to meet those who created this number – unique in the world - and who keep it functioning: Dr. Mongourdin and his team at the University Hospital of Grenoble, and the employees of the emergency call centre.
How does it all work exactly and what does this change for the deaf?

AVAILABLE FOR SCREENING: original French (commentary, sub-titles, signing)
