Our History and our love stories are no strangers to each other. Since the French Revolution, love has been a matter of state in France. In a country which has decreed that “all men are born free and equal”, what about equality in the relations between women and men? What limit to the freedom of desire? What place for consent? What role for men, what role for women, who do we have the right to love? How to understand each other, the meaning of love, and life as a couple or the couple itself? Heaven of hell?
As the French fight for freedom and equality, romantic relationships are constantly being questioned and reinvented. This tumultuous history of more than 200 years tells how we see love. And yet, it remains secretive. French people of all ages, known or unknown, share their personal stories and those of their family; their lives intimately linked to the great history of France.
