A journey of discovery into the forests of Kamchatka, land of ice, tundra and volcanoes in the Far East of Russia. Home to a small clan of Even people, former reindeer herders who roamed the tundra and forests of Siberia for centuries.
Like most indigenous people living in Russia during Soviet rule, the Even were moved off their land and into small villages and Kolkhozes, state-run farms. After the fall of the USSR in 1991, Daria, the head of the family, decided to return to the forest to regain her autonomy on her ancestral lands and their way of life close to nature.

Mike Magidson, a filmmaker from California, and Nastassja Martin, a French anthropologist, travelled to Kamchatka with the intention to make a film about "other lives than ours." For many weeks, during winter and the following summer, they shared the life of Daria and her two sons in a hunting camp far from any carriageways and cut off from all means of communication: Tvaian.
An intimate journey navigating the weight of history, the challenge of climate change and the predatory nature of modern life...
