Director(s): Mike MAGIDSON – Writer(s): Mike MAGIDSON, Alba Lombardia, Audrey Valtille Contact Print page
In 711, the defeat of the Visigoth king Rodriguez at the Battle of Guadalete, 150 kilometres north of Gibraltar, marks the beginning of Muslim expansion. In barely five years, Muslim troops spread to the entire peninsula and settled 900 kilometres further north in Galicia. These territories would be known as Al-Andalus and remain under Muslim domination for nearly eight centuries.
It would change the course of Spanish history, enrich its culture, and profoundly transform its territory by developing cities, building palaces and mosques that have become an integral part of the outstanding jewels of Spain's modern-day heritage.
