Spain, before it became Spain, was known as Hispania. Before they spoke Castilian, Catalan or Galician, they spoke Latin.

In 218 BC, Roman troops arrived in Ampurias, in the heart of the Costa Brava. For the first time in its history, the Iberian Peninsula experienced political stability that would last until the fall of the Roman Empire in the fifth century. The Roman presence would produce profound changes in the landscape of the Iberian lands, still visible from the sky today: its great cities, roads, bridges, aqueducts ...

Hispania would become a the corner stone of the economy and the jewel of the Roman Empire. Hispania would offer Rome some of its most important governors and would reveal itself as one of the empire’s key bastions.
