It’s in his way of touching his shoulder to signify his presence, that Frederic – who is deafblind – immediately recognises Alexandre, the deaf group organiser of the social health-care institute Lucie Nouet in Velizy (greater Paris region).
Alexandre had first been recruited as an accountant. But he quickly established a form of communication with deaf residents with multiple disabilities that no one had envisaged before. Over the years, he gradually encouraged them to become more active and to open up.
As we meet and get to know the residents through Alexandre, we are able to observe their exchanges and blend into the rhythm of their daily lives. It affords us the opportunity to understand their way of being part of this world.
