Gerald Shea, Franco-American, was deaf but did not know it. He was only diagnosed severely deaf at the age of 34 years. Whereas he had been deaf since he was 6 years old!

For nearly thirty years, he believed that his perception of the world around him was that of everyone else, and that his scholastic, professional and personal difficulties were due to intellectual deficiency.
