“I am afraid. I fear for the lives of my children, life in general... humanity. So what am I supposed to do?” Philippe is haunted by his thoughts as he watches the world being shaken by one crisis after another. What can we do as we become aware of their gravity? Or feel powerless as we realise that we are threatened by a climate catastrophe…? “What are we going to tell our children?”
Filmmaker Serge Steyer spent a year with the Shapiro family who live in a house overlooking the beautiful Gulf of Morbihan in the Bretagne (France). They are literally haunted by these concerns, but try to make sense of it all, make their friends aware of it. They want to keep things ‘light’, but Ulysse, the oldest son, joined the army "to be ready for the worst", while their daughter Hypathia, the youngest, says "It doesn’t take much to be happy".
"Waiting for the Flood" speaks of the anguish of the end of the world, a fear that is as old as humanity itself.
