He had sacrificed his own life in order to make sure to hit his target and to cause the highest possible number of casualties. This suicide bomb attack – this human bomb – in Beirut has been used an example by others and copied by hundreds of other ‘martyrs’, for any number of causes, all over the world. A new deadly weapon had been invented. The attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on 11 September 2001 showed the world how devastatingly effective this new weapon could be.
Are suicide attacks the new weapon of the poor? The atomic bomb for the underdogs of our planet? Has it become an invincible weapon?
