We have landed in Hawai and discover THE ambassador of Hawaiian culture with its multitude of patterns celebratint the splendour of the archipelago: the Aloha shirt, the unmistakable Hawaiian shirt!
We meet Aisea Toetuu who proudly displays another local speciality, the tattoo. The tavaka is not exactly a discreet version – it’s covering him in tattoos just as if he were wearing shorts - from hip to knee.
Wearing swimming trunks is something that’s much more subtle than it first appears and we learn that it’s easy to spot at a glance the difference between tourists and the local male population. And while on the beach, we also meet the “black shorts”, a group of “surfers of the extreme” who make sure that law and security reign supreme on the beaches.
We discover that the uniform of the islands comes together in one letter… the S. And we are let into the secrets of the iconic Hawaiian dancers, the Hula Girls, with their Hawaiian Ti leaf skirts.
