DRESS IN BOLIVIA

Director(s): Fernando DIAZ – Writer(s): Fernando DIAZ   Contact Contact   Download Print page

In Bolivia, the red ponchos are not a tourist attraction, but the uniform of the country’s most-feared militia.. The country is on the verge of a civil war and a secessionist from Santa Cruz can easily be identified by his white & green coloured shirt.
But if you take the masked men in the streets of La Paz for terrorists, you’d be mistaken… they are shoe shiners. And how to you recognize the lady who is the Minister of Justice? Easy, she proudly wears the traditional dress of Indians: bowler hat, shawl and flounced skirt.
And Bolivians believe that Eva Morales has been elected president because he wears the little polo shirt called “Chompita”…
