On 20th March 2000, Pope John Paul II visits the Holy Land for the first time. It is the climax of his 25-year reign which he first evoked in his vows on taking office. The trip takes him to the major places of divine revelation,

He follows in the footsteps of Abraham, Moses and Jesus. The Holy Father wanted to begin his pontificate by visiting Jerusalem, but the Israel/Palestinian conflict made this impossible. It took him 22 years, then, to fulfil his wish and to confirm this reconciliation with the Jewish people.
