Following a report that has not been made public by the Ministry of the Interior in France, the government has voted an “anti-gang” law in 2010. This new law allows - among others - to repress any suspicion of violence as well as any constitution of gangs, even before an offence is committed.
The documentary’s director, Atisso Medessou has grown up in the Essonne region, south east of Paris, and more precisely in the district of the Pyramids at Evry and the Courcouronnes Canal. Sadly, all through his adolescence, he’s heard talk of gangs, of trouble and death.
For a whole year, he has now returned to his old neighbourhood with his camera in order to understand the phenomena of gang culture and its consequences.
He met with young people – Tarek, Issam, Richard and others – who would like to see an end to this territory rivalry. I also met with local MPs who wish for a safe neighbourhood for their constituents and with parents who want the best for their children…
