The Watergate scandal was triggered by the break-in, in June 1972, at the Democratic National Committee headquarters at the Watergate office complex in Washington D.C. The scandal eventually led to the resignation of President Richard Nixon on 9 August 1974.

Looking back today at the Watergate scandal and the Irving Commission which led to the resignation of Richard Nixon, we realise that these hearings were above all a first-class lesson in democracy. Step by step, the public interrogations conducted by both parties - recorded extensively by the U.S. networks - were able to uncover the truth after many twists and turns. This original and powerful documentary, based on the historic archive pictures of an investigation that appeared “live” on national TV, tells the story of the most fascinating political thriller of the 20th century.
