2004: Ten years of civil war have destroyed Algeria to its very foundations – except for the oil and gas fields, the country’s main source of revenue: 98% of its entire export! Algeria holds enormous foreign exchange reserves – 18 billion dollars in 2002!

Yet, Algerian society suffers: a shortage of jobs and housing, lack of water even… How is it possible that the population of a potentially wealthy country lives in such poor conditions? In this crucial election year, our film offers a rare opportunity to both sides to express themselves : those on the political and economical scene – whether they are currently holding power or are in the opposition – as well as the people in the street who don’t mince their words, stating their opinions with a sharp, derisive sense of humour.
