The game of ‘boule’ has been associated with life in the South, Provençal folklore, and it’s part of the national heritage. Beyond the clichés, we discover the surprising world of what’s known as “La Pétanque”: a game that was born in 1910 at La Ciotat near Marseille and conquered the world. When the seamen left the ports Marseille or Toulon, the little metal balls were on board and rolled off to places as different as Pondichery, Abidjan, Saigon or Madagascar. The game quickly became popular and today, more than forty countries participate in international competitions and they all believe the game should go to the Olympics…
