DEATH ON THE ROAD, WHO IS TO BLAME?

Director(s): Frederic CHIGNAC   Contact Contact   Download Print page

In the year 2000, road accidents caused 7643 deaths and 162000 injured in France. Among the injured, several thousands suffered irreversible damage and have lost their physical or mental faculties.
For many years, France has been listed among the European countries with the highest death toll on its roads. Who is to blame? The roads themselves, the cars, the drivers or is it because of a lack of coherence in the general perception of road safety?
To get to the root of the problem, our investigator meets families who lost a loved one on a road accident. Witnesses of four cases bring to light the malfunctioning in the treatment of road accidents and uncover several layers of blame and responsibility.
If the death toll in France is higher than in other countries, there must be a reason. Our film tries to find some of them and the poignant witnesses offer an exceptional analysis.
