HOSPITAL vs. PARENTS

Director(s): Françoise DAVISSE – Writer(s): Françoise DAVISSE   Contact Contact   Download Print page

When a child is seriously ill in hospital it changes everything in the daily routine of family life. Sylvie Babin is a medical social worker, at the hospital centre in Nantes.
Her job is to advise and help parents to face and cope with the ordeal so that they won’t be destroyed by it. Using her knowledge of the legal background and welfare structures, she offers practical guidance and supports the parents - without taking interfering with their decisions - so that they find their rightful place in the hospital environment.
Lally is a 3-months-old baby, Luigi is 13 and Emily 16. They have cancer or leukaemia and will remain in hospital for a long time. The parents need to be there with them, but they also have a family life outside the hospital. Juggling to find a balance between these two environments demands a lot of strength and effort.
