In 1974, during a scientific expedition in Ethiopia, the skeleton of a young woman over 3 million years old was found. When the scientists found her, they were listening to the Beatles’ song “Lucy in the sky with diamonds”. So they named our oldest known ancestor, Lucy. Scientists agree that Ethiopia, and the Omo valley in particular, are the cradle of humanity. But it is a region the world has forgotten. Today, there are less than 500 people in the ancient tribe of the Kara, living in a little village on the banks of the river.
