Once a year on a rotation system, a Basque village of the Soule region, a province of the French Basque country, stages a music & dance performance based on the life of one of their illustrious ancestors – the “Pastorale”.

The actors and singers are all from the village itself, from Esquiule this time. During the 9 months preparations 250 out of a total of 507 inhabitants are participating in the project. Needless to say, it binds them closer together and village life is completely transformed. The “Pastorale” attracts a huge audience – 7000 paying spectators for two shows.

The people from the Soule region, the “Souletins”, love to sing and dance – and it gives them a chance to discover a new chapter of their history each year.
