PAUL ANDREU, THE PEKING OPERA

Director(s): Jean-Michel MEURICE – Writer(s): Jean-michel MEURICE   Contact Contact   Download Print page

In 1999, Peking decided it must have an Opera. The proposal by Paul Andreu wins the day.

We follow the architect’s work from the first stages of lay-out and design to reality, from mere dream to the first stone. A true account of creative excitement in the face of technical and economic considerations. And under pressure of time.
For the past decadess, since building terminal 1 of Paris’ Charles de Gaulle airport, Paul Andreu has designed buildings all over world: Cairo, Abu Dhabi, Nice, Jakarta, Shanghai, Osaka… Public spaces designed for the flow of passing crowds, a meeting place for people.
When talking about his work, Andreu speaks of curves and tracks, of footbridges and tunnels, of time, silence, light and …emptiness.
