The International Mother Language Day encourages linguistic diversity by valuing family languages when they are different from official languages.
We’ll be immersing ourselves with two families, whose parents are deaf, to understand how the question of the transmission of their language to their children came up.
In one, the children are also deaf and French as their mother tongue. In the other, the mother tongue of hearing children is French Sign Language. The film demonstrates the strength of social pressure exerted on the choice of languages spoken in the family circle.
AVAILABLE FOR SCREENING: original French (commentary, sub-titles, signing)
