Memory is under heavy scrutiny by a new generation of scientists — and they’re posing an uncomfortable question: Can we trust what we believe we’ve seen with our own eyes?
Just as we often remember someone’s name incorrectly, they say we can misremember important personal events, catastrophes and even crimes we think we saw… or committed.
Many recent studies are questioning the fragility and unreliability of the human memory - with huge implications for justice, psychology and our own sense of who we are.
Experts explain: “Memory is largely an illusion. Our memories are essentially false.”
