"Roundup Facing the Judges" recalls the struggle of individuals (and many scientists) against the multinationals that market a product they consider harmful. This documentary provides an account of the trial**) before internationally renowned judges on 15 and 16 October 2016 in The Hague. The story of the witnesses, filmed in their own environment, plunges us into the reality of their struggle and suffering.
They are farmers, mothers, attorneys, doctors and scientists. They have come from all over the world to testify as to the damage to health and the environment caused by the company Monsanto, the leader in genetically engineered seeds and the inventor of Roundup, the biggest-selling herbicide in the world. Their stories, filmed in France, Argentina, the U.S. or Sri Lanka, plunges us into the reality of their struggle and the suffering of the victims.
The judges gave their legal opinion on 18 April 2017 in The Hague. They considered that Monsanto did not act in conformity with the right to a healthy environment, to health, to food and to the freedom of scientific research...
In the words of one of the witnesses “This tribunal is a historical first, because it has allowed the voices of the victims to be heard across the world."
**) The Monsanto Tribunal is an international civil society initiative to hold Monsanto accountable for human rights violations and ecocide.
