The NBA championship, the professional basketball league in the US, had been paralysed in July ‘98 by a players’ strike. The reason: money. The franchise owners wanted to cap overall spending on salaries at 50% of revenue. The players wanted to keep it at its current level of 58%. The result is : no matches, no live broadcasts and the threat of the 1998-99 season being cancelled. Shot in New York and Phoenix, Arizona, this film allows the players, including the NBA’s n°2 star, and their union leaders to give their version of the events. We also spoke to the fans, disappointed by the lack of action, and took a look at university basketball, the only winner in the dispute.
