Every year at the beginning of the southern hemisphere summer, the « Marion Dufresne » leaves Reunion Island for Crozet, Kerguelen and Amsterdam carrying a new batch of biologists, physicists, archaeologists and others scientists. Through their work and travels round the islands, the archipelago comes to life before our eyes with its hauntingly beautiful landscapes and friendly wildlife. Beyond the passion they bring to their work, something else draws these researchers to the archipelago: it is the name of Kerguelen itself that inspires scientists and non-scientists alike and prompts them to travel to the other end of the world.
